Sit-ups
Sit-ups is a strength discipline in BYOH, trained with bodyweight and building core and stamina. Its ladder runs from 5 reps at Level 1 to 240+ reps at Level 9, and Level 10 is the world record.
The ten levels
BYOH measures a discipline in ten cleared levels. Level 9 is a genuine feat; Level 10 is the standing world record, which is there to be looked at rather than reached.
Sit-ups starts at Level 1 with 5 reps. Level 5 asks for 60 reps, and Level 9 - the last level a person can train towards - 240+ reps. The largest single jump is from Level 8 to Level 9, 175 reps to 240+ reps.

The record past Level 9
Most sit-ups in one hour — 2,201 reps, Jim Clark (2 Jun 2006).
Thirty-seven a minute, kept up for an hour. Other record bodies list higher one-hour figures, and unadjudicated attempts higher still; BYOH prints the governed one.
How it is done
- Lie down on the floor placing your feet either under something that will not move or by having a partner hold them. Your legs should be bent at the knees.
- Place your hands behind your head and lock them together by clasping your fingers. This is the starting position.
- Elevate your upper body so that it creates an imaginary V-shape with your thighs. Breathe out when performing this part of the exercise.
- Once you feel the contraction for a second, lower your upper body back down to the starting position while inhaling.
- Repeat for the recommended amount of repetitions.

How the attempt is judged
A level only means something if two heroes clearing it have done the same thing. These are the rules BYOH counts an attempt by — they are the rules of a game, not coaching.
- What counts as one
- One repetition is from the shoulder blades touching the floor to the elbows or chest reaching the thighs.
- The set
- One unbroken set. You may pause in the supported position for as long as you like; the set ends the moment you leave it.
- What you need
- Knees bent, feet flat, on a surface with some give. You may hook your feet under something or have them held. The supported position is lying down.
- What ends it
- Pulling on the neck, or lifting only the shoulders without reaching the thighs, does not count.
What it builds
Sit-ups feeds Core and Stamina in a hero’s record, working abdominals.
- Anterior bracing
- Whole-body work capacity
Sit-ups is one of 32 strength disciplines. It shares its bodyweight requirement with 13 other strength disciplines. Core is also built by plank, side plank, farmer carry and 3 more, and a broad attribute needs several of them rather than one taken far.
