Lateral line hops
Lateral line hops is a agility discipline in BYOH, trained with open space and building quickness and stamina. Its ladder runs from 10 reps at Level 1 to 400+ reps at Level 9, and Level 10 is the world record.
The ten levels
BYOH measures a discipline in ten cleared levels. Level 9 is a genuine feat; Level 10 is the standing world record, which is there to be looked at rather than reached.
Lateral line hops starts at Level 1 with 10 reps. Level 5 asks for 95 reps, and Level 9 - the last level a person can train towards - 400+ reps. The largest single jump is from Level 8 to Level 9, 280 reps to 400+ reps.

The record past Level 9
Lateral line hops — Provisional legend benchmark.
BYOH uses a provisional final gate until a comparable governed record format is selected. This is a provisional benchmark rather than a governed record.
How it is done
- Choose a flat surface.
- Hop laterally with both feet and land softly.
- Count each crossing as one repetition.
How the attempt is judged
A level only means something if two heroes clearing it have done the same thing. These are the rules BYOH counts an attempt by — they are the rules of a game, not coaching.
- What counts as one
- One repetition is one crossing of the line with both feet together. Over and back is two.
- The set
- One unbroken set. You may pause in the supported position for as long as you like; the set ends the moment you leave it.
- What you need
- A line or flat marker 30 centimetres wide on a firm surface. The supported position is standing on either side.
- What ends it
- Landing on the line, splitting the feet, or a hand touching down ends the set.
What it builds
Lateral line hops feeds Quickness and Stamina in a hero’s record, working calves, coordination.
- Coordination & balance
- Change of direction
- Calves
- Whole-body work capacity
Lateral line hops is one of 4 agility disciplines. It shares its open space requirement with 3 other agility disciplines. Quickness is also built by 100 m sprint, 200 m sprint, 400 m run and 4 more, and a broad attribute needs several of them rather than one taken far.
